Unflinching

Sometimes, I found her face peculiar.

Not long after my family moved and I changed schools, I stumbled upon a girl my age on my way back home. The road was long but properly taken care of - someone could use a bike to follow the road down from school to my house without cycling even once, and would get there quickly. I didn’t have a bike, though, so my trip home is more of a long stroll. Halfway through this road, there is a field with a large tree on one side, and a short way to a cliff from another. One could sit under the tree’s cooling shade and still marvel at the sky on the other side. It is there I found her.

She was holding up sandwiches to the sky.

Hand-in-hand Forever

“You look good!”, my housemate announced to the entire block. “What are you up to?”

“Stop grinning,” my cheeks burning red, from both flattery and embarrassment. I suppose it is deserved; I haven’t pulled this dress out of the wardrobe for months now. That being said, it's not like I can compare to her looks on Friday nights. “Just meeting old friends, Han.”

“A guy?”

“A guy,” I half-whispered. “Stop grinning!”

“I’m just glad you’re going out again, dear. After, you know..”

Card Game: Drain

Another card game I thought of, when we're chilling in cafe.

What you need: A deck of poker cards

Players: 2 players (have yet to test on 3+ player gameplay)

How to play:
To set up the game, shuffle the deck and give each player 5 cards. Put the remaining deck in the middle.
The goal of the game is to take turn to guess your opponent's cards. If your opponent lose all their cards (by being guessed) you win.

He's My Brother

Big Fishes' Carnival at The Lake - He’s My Brother

I was trying to recall the day I met my brother.

The first thing that came to mind was the freezing wind. From all the difficult walks and all the struggle through numerous natural formations, I can’t remember anything as clear as the raging blizzard that surrounded us – it was the first time that I felt anything, anything else. I remembered seeing the blinding white fading away, much like my own consciousness. I remembered how the cold is sinking to my bones the way I was sinking into the snow. I remembered someone shouting my name – I was with another guy – before all the white turned pitch-black.

Board Game: The Hong Kong Flounder

This post serves only to pre-advertise our (by us I mean my teammates and I) currently non-commercialized board game by a CCA I'm in, the Hong Kong Flounder. It is a simple board games played with cards, the "Hong Kong" Board, a severely imbalanced pieces of Tetris, and lots of fun!

Details of the game might be sensitive as I'm writing this post without the knowledge of my groupmates, but in essence you are a flounder trying to go through Hong Kong, a city undergoing massive (and by massive I mean MASSIVE) reconstruction upon its ridiculous advancement in technology. There are other Flounders in town, and you must stop them while reaching the goal yourself.

A building suddenly falls in front of you and you can't proceed? A group of buildings moved on its own?? A Flounder ran past you and now you lose a card? Some of the Flounders might even be working with the Mafia Boss!? Several playtest has been underwent to balance this game, and the gameplay has proven to be a total chaos. You are never winning, you are never losing. There's always a way out, one way or another.

Wait for more updates!!

The Sky for Us

Big Fishes' Carnival at The Lake - The Sky for Us

Another story, you say?

Well, you do miss out a lot of interesting stories, even though I have told you hundreds of mine. Oh, I know! How about the story of our little girl who longs for the sky? It all started the night you went away, the night our little girl was about to learn about life. We were walking down the narrow street - you know, the one spanning across the rice field that links our village and the city. With gentle wind that is as if going to take you slowly to the beautiful clear sky, and the crops soothingly sway, beckoning us to play with them, how could you not remember? What a relaxing place it was.

Curse

Big Fishes' Carnival at The Lake - Curse

Shivering. Flickering. Excruciating.

There was a difference between the silent darkness of the night and the crushing nothingness. That wasn’t the former. Deafening silence? You realized that such phrase was only for human to play with, as the pitch-black you were in robbed you of your auditory sense with its. You tried to blink, hoping that each would take you back to the world of bright you took for granted, yet each time you opened your eyes, you achieved but a harsh, undeniable confirmation that those days were no longer your reality. The more you tried, the more you felt your eyes bulging out as those useless pupils stormed left and right, up and down, to the point where you don’t know which is which. And that’s what’s worse: that you can only feel yourself.
